Materials

As I am trying to consider two of the TED Ten points (minimizing waste and recycling/up-cycling) I am trying to make this coincide with the project theme of the shop in Paris as well. I have been thinking about factories and the waste they produce each year with unwanted components and faulty objects being sent back or discarded. This got me interested in factories around the UK and I came across a lot of silicone factories.
Silicone rubber is a flexible material so this relates as well. Here a are some initial images of silicone rubber and ideas for materials

Initial images related to theme/design concept

I really like the placement of imagery and abstract style of Ernesto Artillo

When I think of flexibility within fashion I always think back to Hussein Chalayan's collection of silicone dresses

FLUX

Project working with TED (Textiles Environmental Design).
Chosen Ted point: Up-cycling/recycling & minimizing waste material, ideally want to combine the two ideas together.

Theme:

During our trip to Paris to participate in the Indigo show at Premiere Vision, I visited a flea market called 'Marché aux Puces St-Ouen de Clignancourt' where I found an incredible shop/stall called Tombees Du Camion' which literally translates to 'fallen from truck'.

It had a mixture of tiny, bizarre objects from dolls eyes to fake noses to small glass bottles, all displayed in small boxes around the walls. The owner arranges some of the toys/components/accessories around the shop in interesting ways and it really captured me. I spoke to him and he said he collects all of these 'unique objects from various factories around France, old and new, by sourcing produce from them that is going to waste or being discarded. He then dismantles them to get all of the different parts of a piece or gets them given to him like this as they are not needed anymore. Here are some pictures from his shop:
